The Ethels - Black Rock & Bolehill

picture of mountains with the words the Ethels

I had no intention of hiking today as I had a very busy day.  I was painting my son's bedroom 2 tones, which meant a lot of wait time for drying.  I was also waiting for BeFibre to send an engineer to fix my WiFi which had been down for an entire week. Very poor service on their part.

Once the engineer had been and I had got to a point with the painting where I had to wait another 2-4 hours for a section to dry, I decided to take the dog for a walk.

I had always wanted to tick Bolehill off my list of Ethels. But had never been able to find it on my previous visits to BlackRock.  So I found a trail on AllTrails that included Bolehill. It was a very short 30 minute walk including the scenic views.

views from Black Rock

I parked near Black Rock carpark, jumped out with the dog and started the ascent. It's quite steep but a doesn't last too long.  Once you are up there you can enjoy the views.  Then another short ascent to a gate that you need to go through to find the Bolehill trig point.

Once we reached the trig point, the trail suggests a little loop around.  It was a very peaceful walk around with the dog, until I heard a clap of thunder and realised we were very exposed. So we sped up and completed the loop very quickly. Then back to blackrock to enjoy the views one more time.

Once completed we hopped in the car to return the short journey home to finish off the painting and remove the frogtape.

I'd give the walk a higher score if it was longer, but by the time you get started you are already finished.  But it's well worth a visit as the views are amazing.
