Umbraco - Add colour to your RTE

Posted 5 Feb 17 by Darren Welch

At times you may need to give your clients the ability to change the colour of their content.

Umbraco by default does not have this functionality. (well at least not on version 7.4.3)

If you would like to enable this feature you will need to:

  • download a newer version of TinyMCE.  Click on http://download.moxiecode.com/tinymce/tinymce_4.1.7.zip
  • Copy the contens from the zip file into the "/umbraco/lib/tinymce" folder.
  • Locate the "/config/tinyMceConfig.config" file.
    • Add:
       <plugin loadOnFrontend="true">textcolor</plugin>
    • Add:
       <plugin loadOnFrontend="true">colorpicker</plugin>
    • Add:
      <command>
      <umbracoAlias>mceForeColor</umbracoAlias>
      <icon>images/editor/forecolor.gif</icon>
      <tinyMceCommand value="" userInterface="true" frontendCommand="forecolor">forecolor</tinyMceCommand>
      <priority>75</priority>
      </command>
  • In the backoffice, click on developer, data types, richtext editor.
  • Tick the color picker option.
  • update your web.config and refresh the changes.
